Review of Once (2007) by Zeke T — 11 Apr 2012
I saw this last night with some of the Film School kids (I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M IN THE FREAKING FILM SCHOOL HOLY COW) and didn't write a review because Taylor was in the room. One time I was writing a review on here and Taylor was snooping behind me and kind of grinning and I felt violated because I take movies seriously and he doesn't.
Anyways, this is a really good movie. I saw it at Studio Green on a less-than-satisfactory screen (it made the quality look poor), and the girl sitting next to me would talk to me DURING THE MOVIE, so it was sometimes hard to give it my full focus.
Sometimes she would ask completely out of the blue questions like, "So you live with both your parents?" WHAT?? Anyways, it was my first time hanging out with the Film School students so it was fun and I was nice to her.
But if it had been one of my close friends I probably would have politely asked him or her to be quiet. It was a distracting place. Despite that, I still loved this film. It's tough not to be enchanted by the simple Czech girl and the music.
The movie as a whole is pretty simple, but poetic. I'd like to give it another screening and I'd probably give it a higher rating.
