Review of On the Waterfront (1954) by Patrick D — 17 Sep 2010
Interesting from a historical perspective and for Marlon Brando's great performance. It shows how Hollywood was trying to appeal to Irish Americans - instead of "Paddy the idiot fighting drunk," this film glorifies the Irish caricature of violence and drinking by depicting it as a 1950s manly ideal.
They even throw in a fighting Irish priest full of righteous anger.
