Review of On the Waterfront (1954) by Jesse W — 03 Jul 2012
Deserves its legacy as a masterpiece. Brando pretty much put the nail in the coffin on film acting. The supporting characters did extremely well to with Maldens Father Barry and Cobb as the mob boss Johnny Friendly.
Regardless of Kazan's agenda (dealing with his own decisions to testify), the film remains a fantastic story of courage and bravery. The Cinematography of the film is beautiful with some of the greatest black and white shots of the Waterfront I have ever seen.
The direction was top notch and while the score to the film is incredible, it does seem to be a bit loud in some cases. One of the true defining films of its era.
