Review of On the Town (1949) by Heather H — 26 Dec 2007
The plot to this film is simple: Three sailors in the Navy use their one day of shore leave to pick up chicks in the wonderful city of New York. In a modern context, this embarassingly simple plotline would have annoyed me, but since it's set around the 40s and involves Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra, it's awesome.
(Those of us who love musicals don't usually love them for the plots, anyway.) The music is excellent--even infectious--and the characters are some of the most hilarious to ever see the screen. All in all, a very well-made movie, worth spending an evening with.
