Review of On the Town (1949) by Louise D — 12 Feb 2013
Often mentioned in the breath as Singin' in the Rain but this is a poor second in my opinion, lacking the post-modern comment on the medium, the cast-iron tunes and most of the jokes. Still, some enjoyable zingers and sexual self-assurance from the NY dames, refreshing use of locations and Gene Kelly doing his thing in bellbottoms so better than a standard studio musical.
