Review of On the Road (2012) by Warwick B — 25 Oct 2012
Director Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries) brings Jack Kerouac's 1957 cult autobiographical novel of road tripping American hipsters to the big screen.
"The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live" exclaims young wannabe writer, Sal Paradise (Sam Riley), which is now he finds himself on the road with the maddest of them all, Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund) - a psychopathically irresponsible dude who everyone wants to be with. Jointly and separately the pair; wild, sexy and carefree; crisscross post war America searching for an elusive freedom.
Don't bother hopping along for this particular ride - Kerouac's Beat Generation novel could have done without the Hollywood treatment.
