Review of On the Basis of Sex (2018) by Jon C — 13 Jan 2019
Felicity Jones, Armie Hammer, Sam Waterston, and Kathy Bates star in the.
Amazing true story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg making sexual discrimination in the workforce unconstitutional.
Ruth was one of the few women accepted into Harvard Law school yet she choose to complete her degree at Columbia. It's unbelievable how many times men turned her down to work at a.
Prestigious firm but she had total support from her husband even if he did suffer healthwise. But Ruth also wanted to set a good example for her daughter. Her first big case involved.
A bachelor denied his tax deduction because he hired a female nurse. At.
First it seemed impossible but Ruth was willing to change and make both men.
And women equal even taking on the US Supreme Court of the 10th circuit.
She went as far as going to Dorothy Kenyan for advice on how to start from scratch so everyone would take her seriously. Kenyan's case seemed like a lost cause when she failed but it was enough for Ruth to build up from what started decades ago making the progression for women to evolve and therefore, make a difference in the country's perspective of treating her just the same.
Some believed her aspiration for gender equality to ruin the American family image fearing divorce rates soaring, putting men out of work and putting more women on the field having them fail even more.
Felicity Jones kills it playing one of the most successful pioneer women in history. Her stubbornness, her determination, and her commitment to take the fight beyond herself.
Is it a movement if everyone is just sitting? There are laws that don't.
Allow women's benefits to qualify after their spouses pass. Certain jobs.
Are lost because of marriage. It's easy still for women to be easily dismissed because of their gender, lifestyles or professions. You have to change minds first then change the law. Is the country ready for change? Things can't change unless the culture does as.
Does the law. The word woman doesn't appear once in the US constitution nor.
Does the word freedom. The law doesn't need to carry on a legacy of an.
America that no longer exists. Protect the right of the country to change.
We can always set new precedents. Our children of the future can have their own choices man or woman but on the same levels. A court cannot be affected by the weather of the day, but by the climate of the era.
This isn't a fantastic biopic but it takes itself seriously enough to address one of today's modern social issues still withstanding. Plus it portrays a strong female lead that's inspired so many and her ideals still make a big difference. A very talented lead actress, a gifted female director, and a helpful supporting cast with an intelligent screenplay make this one of my favorite films of the year.
