Review of On Chesil Beach (2018) by Kristin B — 12 Jan 2019
Ronan as always brings a strong performance, but her romantic counter part does not bring the same level of screen presence or charisma to his role. Further, the two have minimumal chemistry, which does not help the film.
Further, the imbalance between Ronan's characters fears on her wedding night during this sexually repressed period versus Howle's frankly mean and harsh reactions make him far less sympathetic a character.
THe cinemtography and costuming is beautiful, but ultimately it feels like an unnecessarily tragic love story.
