Review of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever (1970) by Aaron L — 20 Nov 2007
This movie has a great story/idea behind it, but unfortunately it didn't quite deliver in the way it could have. It's very blocky with many flow problems and some over-the-top acting moments throughout.
Barbra is.... Barbra in this. She's fine but doesn't quite deliver and I think much of this had to do with a lack of good writing and direction. Yves Montand was very weak in his role with much melodrama throughout.
Also his accent was a distraction. It didn't quite work for his character. Also, the love between the two of them just wasn't real. Overall the film was too long with not enough captivating moments to keep an audience interested.
If made with the right people, the idea behind the film is more than enough to make this film a success. Unfortunately, this version didn't succeed as it should have. Oh, and negative points for Barbra playing a very "unbelievable" smoker.
