Review of Omkara (2006) by Joey H — 02 Feb 2008

Part of the HAA Hindi Film Festival. I was expecting it to be a more loose adaptation of Othello, but it was pretty spot on (e.g. even most of the characters of first names even begin with he same letter).

For the most part, the acting was pretty stellar; I didn't care for Kareena Kapoor much, but she was also the weakest character (from a modern viewpoint) to portray. There was some points that were purely fan service (e.

G., all the shots of Omkara pumping water without his shirt on, the inclusion of Bipasha Basu at all, etc.), but for the most part it was confined to the happier beginning of the story. All in all: I'm not sure I'd recommend it to everyone, but it was pretty worthwhile for me.
