Review of Om Shanti Om (2007) by Hafsa S — 18 May 2008
I really liked this movie. Farah Khan really knew how to capture the cliche of both the old and the new with love. I thought that the story was great and the songs even served to move the plot . One of my major criticisms of most musicals, Bollywood or Broadway, is that many time the songs are pretty, explicate an emotional truth, or reveal a part of a character, but they don't fit into the movement of the show.
The songs revolve and reveal parts of the story that help the story move. (Not all, but enough that I think it is worth mentioning.) I thought the performance by SRK was top notch, and Deepika Padukone gives one of the best debut performances of any young actress in a long time.
Not for nothing she holds her own on screen with SRK and kept it together on the set with god knows what kind of pressure on her to perform. I recommend this to any one who wants a good story and a fun time.
