Review of Om Shanti Om (2007) by Nadeem M — 02 Dec 2008
A big budget affair, complete with great cinematography and visual effects, which is not the norm in Bollywood. The plot is loosely based on the film Karz, which the title Om Shanti Om is taken from (the opening sequence uses footage taken from the original film).
The music and choreography is excellent throughout and the performances from the leads are impressive. My only criticism is that the theme of reincarnation, which is perfectly plausible in Hindi culture, is not explained properly.
Anyone who doesn't have any knowledge of this Hindu belief may find the plot development a tad silly, although it probably won't spoil their enjoyment. All in all, a solid film for anyone interested in Bollywood, especially people familiar with the 70s and 80s films and actors.
