Review of Olympus Has Fallen (2013) by Andrew K — 28 Nov 2014

While the action is good and the acting lines from Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman and really everyone else but the villain Kang are good, Olympus Has Fallen is a stupid movie. Olympus Has Fallen seems to be trying to follow the Die Hard formula only with raised stakes.

The problem, besides the fact that it's cliche and plot ends up being highly predictable, is that with these greater stakes many nuances arise. Logical fallacies abound and overall the movie seems to have no idea how difficult neigh impossible a feat it would be for the White House to actually fall.

Overall it's just an ok movie. Maybe if it had gone for the over the top fun approach i.e. G.I. Joe 2, then then things might've been good but Olympus Has Fallen plays everything straight faced and it only works to it's detriment.
