Review of Olympus Has Fallen (2013) by Brandon W — 24 Jan 2016
Olympus Has Fallen is directed by Antoine Fuqua and stars Gerard Butler in an action film that's about a disgraced Secret Service agent that sees that the White House was taken by Korean terrorists and he has to do whatever the stakes are for him to save everybody who's kidnapped in the White House.
With a premise like this, of course it's going to be similar to Die Hard, and I'm sure the filmmakers know that while making Olympus Has Fallen. The thing is however, is that as long as it's entertaining to watch, then it doesn't really matter that much, and I thought that it's a very entertaining movie.
The acting is great, especially Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, and Morgan Freeman. The villain is nicely developed, although not as memorable as Hans Gruber in Die Hard. The action is pretty good, there are some cool lines, while also giving dumb lines in the movie.
Some of the effects are nice to look at, but for most of it, you can tell that there's a green screen, or is completely computer animated, which they look very fake. The direction by Antoine Fuqua is well shotted, and it's a pretty straightforward film that is just there to be a fun one.
Olympus Has Fallen is a great action film that I'm curious to see what the sequel is going to be like.
