Review of O'Lucky Man (2003) by Ian M — 17 Nov 2007
One of the best films of all time. A "pilgrim's progress" or bildingsroman type odyssey, with the initially innocent "hero" encountering various adventures, with musical commentary by Alan Price, founder of the Animals. Entirely allegorical throughout, with wicked black humour paired with deep humanity.
The line from the title song is "If you've found the reason to live on and not to die you are a lucky man." This, together with the rest of Price's songs, forms the real narrative of the film.
