Review of Oliver Twist (2005) by Jonathan S — 03 Jun 2011
Polanski's adaptation of the Dickens classic sees him draw on his early experiences in the Krakow ghetto, the grime and poverty of the setting more convincingly portrayed here than in the usual boot polish 'kerchiefed Oliver Twist production.
Ben Kingsley is a relevatory Fagin, evoking sympathy for a character usually drawn much larger and without the complexities the actor brings here.
