Review of Oliver Twist (2005) by Daniel D — 29 Oct 2011
Not crazy about this rendition - though the majority of that disliking is directed at dickens and not polanski, as I never loved this story in the first place. imo, the point of making an '05 remake of a '51 "classic" adaptation of an 1830s classic book is to modernize it and/or put an artistic spin on it.
..which polanski really doesn't do here (which isn't surprising, since he's rather a traditional director), but still, I was disappointed.
