Review of Oliver & Company (1988) by Nat G — 28 Nov 2008
Inspired by Charles Dickens' "Oliver Twist". A homeless kitten named Oliver, roams the streets of New York, where he is taken in by a gang of homeless mutts who survive by stealing from others. During one of these criminal acts, Oliver meets a wealthy young girl named Jenny Foxworth. The gang then rescue Oliver back from the girl, then puts him up for ransom to pay the boss. But in the end Fagan has heart and helps Oliver to find a happy home.
Disney are trying to go cool in this film, but it doesn't really work, I think maybe they should have told the Oliver Twist story the way it was written and not pimp it up. Disney also love their dog films and I think that there is nothing much more to explore in the dog world, they need to try something new. This is not a classic Disney film, but overall it's not a bad film it's just not a great film.
