Review of Oleanna (1994) by Paul P — 14 Jul 2009
I've heard so many great things about the play that I decided to check this out, of course it being a Mamet movie didn't hurt. I don't know what went wrong between the play and the screenplay but sweet Jesus this movie misses in a big way.
It's obvious to see where the play probably went and where the film fails to go, but that still would've made this as bland as tofu! By the end you're supposed to be conflicted. Who's to blame, or are they both to blame? Instead I was left hating Eisenstadt's character so much that when Macy's character acts out I cheered him on and that's wrong.
A truly grueling 90 minutes to sit through!
