This is a stylish remake, but it's not as stylish as the original. It feels like a step backwards. Its attempts to explain, setup, condense and complicate things make an already grim twisted story even less palatable.
A remake is not a success if the whole time you're watching it, you're wishing you were watching the original. (PS: I'm going to write a petition asking Hollywood to give Elizabeth Olsen another good role because this is thankless.
