Review of Oldboy (2013) by Josh O — 13 Feb 2014
Another unnecessary and uninspired remake that is made watchable by its good performances and Sean Bobbit's cinematography. The story still manages to be intriguing but the script is rather bland and the changes made to make it different to the Korean movie are too Hollywood and undermine the power of the themes that the original movie made so impacting.
The original was a visceral and tense experience while the remake is a slightly engaging exploitation flick made watchable by its three leads.
