Review of Oldboy (2013) by Lee F — 14 Feb 2014
I've seen the original Korean film that this film is a remake of. It was always described as some sort of masterpiece. I never really understood why. It was interesting but very strange. It even at times became silly.
It was telling a serious story but acted out in a way that really became campy. When all is revealed in the end it loses so much of it's punch. That's where this American remake shines. It takes everything I disliked about the original film out of the movie and tells a much more coherent story.
I enjoyed this version very much and even though I knew how it would end, I was still just as floored by it. Good flick.
