Review of Oldboy (2013) by Scott W — 15 Feb 2014
Huge fan of the original but disliked this remake. The writing was awful and way too melodramatic compared to the smart and thoughtful writing of the original. It's as violent as the original but without the style and atmosphere.
The plot twist might surprise some people but if you have seen the original it is painfully predictable and everything leading up to it that's changed is changed in safe and uninteresting ways. About the only thing going for this movie is Josh Brolin's performance.
