Review of Oldboy (2013) by Chad D — 28 Mar 2014
Spike Lee puts an interesting American twist on the horror classic from Korea, but seemingly fails to add much. While not terrible by any manner, Spike Lee's Oldboy remake only fails because it is a seemingly exact copy of its original.
Shifting very little from its source material, Oldboy will attract new viewers, but probably will fail to satisfy viewers of the original Korean classic. Josh Brolin puts in a fine performance nonetheless, and other than it being too similar to its source material, Oldboy was an entertaining and twisting thriller.
