This was the first American remake that I'd seen, and now I understand why the originals from foreign countries are better.
While it retained most of the original plot, the execution wasn't nearly the same, which really deadened the whole impact of the thing. Of course, perhaps I'm just biased, since I knew the twist ending from the beginning.
