Review of Oldboy (2013) by John D — 30 Sep 2014
Firstly, I had never heard of the original South Korean film (now available on Netflix). Had I, would have seen that one instead of this (no issues with remakes, but there is a reason why originals are better).
First I was intrigued by the director. Spike Lee? This felt more like a Spike Lee homage to Quentin Tarantino.
There is excessive violence, drama, mystery and action to keep you entertained the full hour and 44 minutes.
It's a shame the movie was too predictable. Now I have the need to watch the original because I have a hunch that that one is going to be darker and deeper.
