Review of Oldboy (2013) by Jason M — 04 Apr 2014
Spike Lee's Oldboy feels more like a reboot than a remake; much of the core storyline remains unchanged from the original. Josh Brolin fits into the silent bruiser role with relative ease, but it's the clunky direction and lack of a cohesive plot that cause this movie to suffer.
The film's final twist is shocking nonetheless, and the few action sequences are brutally stylish.
