Review of Oldboy (2013) by Tristan M — 01 Feb 2015
This is based of the original Asian film, and although I haven't seen it, this English remake looks like it stays very close to the original plot. Josh Brolin delivers a really great performance as the main character, and the supporting actors do as well.
Being a remake it is plaged with getting a overall bad review from most watchers, but I envoyed this movie for the most part. Besides the acting, the cinematography was really good, and it was kept at a good pace overall.
The action is over the top but amusing a and easy to follow, and it has some very gory and bloody moments of torture. It's a complex plot, that is dead and confusing into the very end, but it still has some loose ends.
Like why does the bad guys dead dad have an open sexual relationship with his two young teenage children? And why do the bad guys in movies always go through all this damn work, (in this case 20 years of it) just to make the main character experience their pain for a for a couple of days at most.
So ya a dark movie, with many grime moments, a sad and confusing ending, and plenty of gory moments that will make you grimace. Deserves a better rating from critics and viewers.
