Review of Oldboy (2013) by Kyle S — 17 Feb 2014
I have never seen the original, though I now plan to so this is a review of this film only. Oldboy is an odd movie, I felt the pacing was off, the story stopped to focus on the wrong places, and though the action was intense and fairly well done, it still felt a little flat.
Despite that I still enjoyed the movie. This is due to Josh Brolin who is the highlight of this remake. What I couldn't get past was the script, and from what I have heard, the changes that were made to it.
The final act of the movie doesn't ring true to me and even before that the typical montage of Doucett getting in shape seems out of place. Until the final act Doucett has seemingly become a better person from his capture and I just don't see that happening enough to result in his final action.
I enjoyed watching Adrian, but wish we could have seen more of him.
