Review of Oldboy (2003) by Luke E — 17 Apr 2012
This South Korean Film blew me away! Taking its premise from a Japanese Manga and engaging as a Hollywood action thrillers and American Noir films, focusing on themes of Mysticism, Vengence, School days, Amorality, etc.
thats just one of the many powerful and disturbing wonders from Oldboy. The film overall owes itself to its director Park Chan-Wook and star Choi Min-Sik; Outstanding Jobs that has come to define the new wave of South Korean Cinema.
Its more direct and compelling compared to its predecessor "Sympathy for Mr.Vengence" in Chan-Wook's Vengence Trilogy, Its also the most popular and most explosive entery. Recomended for the mature adult audience with strong stomachs and broad tastes, Oldboy is Violent and Brutal at times but that come to define how the story strips itself of its setting and characters.
Highly recomended to see for what it is for fast paced action, drama and plenty of twists and turns.
