Review of Oldboy (2003) by Nery C — 12 May 2012
Oldboy is...well, unlike pretty much anything you will ever see. This South Korean (same country that brought you the equally amazing The Host) revenge thriller is so jarring in its violence, so mesmerizing with its style, you'd think you'd just stepped into Tarantino Land.
It's visual style alone is worth checking it out for. Mixing the likes of Blade Runner and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to make a very unsettling world that is real, but so far from reality. I really can't describe this film very well, but then again.
..I really shouldn't. Trying to describe it in words wouldn't come close giving it justice, all I can say is watch it...and be prepared to be Oldboy'ed.
