Review of Oldboy (2003) by Thief 1 — 26 Dec 2012

I had read about this film on lots of forums and lots of places, but never had the chance to rent it. I finally did a couple of days ago and, boy, was I in for a surprise or what? What I got was a brutally tragic tale of hate and revenge.

For the first half-hour or so, I felt a bit disconnected from it, and there were some awkward directorial choices that were a bit distracting and silly (like the ant in the subway). But after the film clicked, I was all in for the ride.

Great performances from the lead guy and his nemesis, and a shocking twist that, for some reason, I didn't see coming.
