Review of Oldboy (2003) by Brit W — 10 Jul 2013
Oldboy was one of those movies that came out of nowhere. It was the first of the so-called Vengeance trilogy that I saw, personally, and I became an instant Chan Wook Park fan. It's a violent, gut-wrenching, trip of a film, and one that you will never forget after viewing.
Revenge can become something of a stale motivation in movies today, as almost every villain in any movie is motivated by revenge. But hero and villain in this film are motivated by their own brands of revenge, and it's as compelling a watch as you'll ever see.
Unless your squeamish, this should be watched, if nothing else, for the "feel" of the movie.
