Review of Oldboy (2003) by Blake M — 25 Jan 2014
I've been hearing about this movie for years from friends and buzz across the internizzle. That being said, foreign films just aren't my thing but with the Josh Brolin remake out, I figured I should see the original first.
First, I like the concept a lot but the film as a whole left me a little underwhelmed. It's not to say I didn't like it. I just didn't love it the way my peers seem to love it. It's not a film I see myself watching again but I still can see the appeal.
For me the story itself was much more entertaining than the "shock" aspects I heard about (which didn't live up to my expectations). Good acting and a good plot makes it a good film. Not terrible.
Not great. Just good. Can't imagine ever watching it again but I'm glad I sat through it once. Personally I'm a huge Josh Brolin fan and am expecting to enjoy the remake more than I did this version.
