Oldboy is practically overflowing with symbolism and metaphors that will make you watch it multiple times if you hope to pick up on even half of it. Everything in this movie just works. The directing is stylish, gritty, and really brings life to the world in which our protagonist, Oh Dae-su, lives.

The mystery aspect is intriguing and the conclusion is satisfying, dark, twisted, mind-bending, poetic, and exceeds any expectations you may have had, no matter how high. As for the "revenge-flick" aspect of the film, it excels at that too, the violence is heightened but fits perfectly into the reality presented to us, and never feels out of place.

The characters are interesting, fun to watch, and well acted. This movie is part of director Park Chan-wook's thematic "revenge trilogy" but stands on it's own as a masterpiece of film making that everyone (who doesn't have a weak stomach) should see.
