Review of Old School (2003) by Jason D — 09 May 2010
In Old School, three adult friends (Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and Will Ferrell) come together when Wilson moves out of cheating girlfriend Juliette Lewis' house and buys a nice bachelor house right on a popular college campus.
Soon, Vaughn conspires to turn the house into a full-fledged fraternity in order to not lose the house from villains college Dean Jeremy Piven. As a result, the three guys recruit of bevy of random people, most of whom defy age and class, not to mention aren't even college students for that matter.
Lots of frat parties involving boobs, beer, and streaking ensue. Director Todd Phillips made an impressive debut with Road Trip, but really broke-through with this comedic gem (though now he's even more of a big time superstar after doing The Hangover), as did scene-stealing Will Ferrell, who become a comedic legend once Old School came out.
Yeah, the movie certainly delivers on lots of laughs, especially from such a wide array of comic actors and actresses. You can see bit parts from a ton of familiar faces including Craig Kilborn (as Wilson's love interest's douche boyfriend), Andy Dick (in a hilarious role), Artie Lange, good ole Terry O'Quinn, Seann William Scott (another hilarious role) and even Rob Corddry (in a blink-and-you'll-miss-him role as one of the frat pledges).
Like I said, this movie is a breakthrough comedy that many consider a classic, especially because of Ferrell, but overall, it's a good movie.
