Review of Old School (2003) by Taba H — 16 Mar 2011
This is a raucous frat-school comedy that's dopey, degrading and disgusting -- and consistently hilarious. Old School is no Animal House or Porky's, but by today's standards it is pretty rowdy. There are some genuinely funny moments in the movie. Unfortunately it ends up being a bit disjointed with some slow spots. The last half really drags quite a bit and the movie finishes with a whimper. The whole plot is a shambles. And yet none of this matters much when you're laughing as hard as this film makes you laugh. Old School is exactly what director Todd Phillips intends for it to be: low-brow, moronic to a fault, and occasionally side-splittingly funny.
VERDICT: "Matinée" - (Mixed reaction). These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says to pay matinée prices to see at a theater or buy an ex rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own.
