Review of Old Joy (2006) by Ryan S — 19 Jun 2007
Simple and serene film making. Much as the wilderness is an escape for the main characters in this film, the film itself acts as an escape from the busy world that can be Hollywood film make. Old Joy is also an interesting look into a friendship that was most likely much closer, but has gradually faded over time.
The performances by both London and Oldham are very good, and Reichardt does a great job of showing how some people simply are not adept to what the world is turning into.
