Will Oldham's performance is wonderful and natural. Apparently, he was interested in playing either part and I'm curious as to how he would have fit as the other friend, but he flows into this part so well.
Also, the scenery and overall tone of the film are effective. In particular, the hot-spring scene is brilliantly shot.
