Review of Old Fashioned (2014) by Thom H M — 15 Feb 2015
As a Christian, I try to see movies that are Christian, and am generally disappointed as most Christian filmmakers just aren't that great. This film is a definite exception. Rik Swartzwelder is the Christian version of Orson Welles.
He can write, direct, produce, and star in his motion pictures, and do all equally well. He shows that a character can be serious, somber, and yet totally believable as someone taking part in a reciprocal love story.
His love interest and every character is well acted. And I think if I didn't know any better, I would swear this movie would be one of the great independent films that I see at a local theatre that plays great independent films, and would not guess that it is Christian.
That's because Christianity isn't thrown in your face - it has a very strong presence there, but ultimately you get a sense and are inspired by the simple concept of treating one another with dignity and respect.
And that there is a higher way of living that is perfectly fine to reach for. I highly recommend this movie.
