Review of Old Dogs (2009) by Peter D — 19 Jul 2010
It has its occasional chuckles, but overall, Old Dogs is a bland, uninspired void of comic nothingness. I did not care about the characters, and the children are so bland and underdeveloped that they could be replaced by a microwave and a unicorn and nobody could notice the difference.
A man complaint that I've heard about this film is Robin Williiams' performance. But honestly, he was the most interesting and likeable character in the bunch (which isn't saying much though).
The actor I really couldn't stand is Seth Green; his character is a pointless annoyance, and like a dying appendix, I wanted him removed from this film. I also hated the cheap attempts at melodrama such as a dead dog and the boring family vs.
business conflict. If you want a cute and funny family comedy, watch Despicable Me, not this flash in the pan.
