Review of Oklahoma! (1955) by John R — 19 Nov 2016

Rogers & Hammerstein's first musical and first musical film. Very well done, but I thought the musical concept was not adapted as well as it could have been -- a couple of key songs were dropped, and the ballet sequence could have been more than just filming the stage choreography.

I suppose this was an early stab at this kind of film musical, but I always felt Oklahoma was a bit better as a stage play. Otherwise, its great!
