Review of Okja (2017) by Jv T — 01 Jul 2017
A tender yet disturbing modern fable about a young girl and her large, warm, and intelligent pet that a corporation wants to turn into food. It's a biting social commentary that puts a humanistic face to the food we eat.
Okja, the titular creature is a beautiful CGI creation that all animal lovers would love to hug, making her fate (along with the rest of her kind) a hard watch. The movie is tonally all over the place and has some very good scenes and some very depressing ones as well.
It makes for some eclectic entertainment.
