Review of Okja (2017) by Pablo G — 01 Jul 2017
4/5.
Okja is relevant "af" and reasonable as it can be, all hand in hand with a deeply emotional approach to the experience that proves to be the ultimate tonal contradiction, as it combines powerful drama and subject matter with almost indie qwerkyness and comedy, that to put it bluntly, can get plain unpleasant in ways I seriously doubt were intended. Is this unique? Probably. Bad? Not necessarily. If anything Okja could prove to be one hell of a case study regarding genre in film, as its highs at least outweigh the lows when it comes to tone.
