Review of O'Horten (2007) by Charlie J — 17 Jul 2010
A little norwegian pearl.
Just being retired odd horten has to sort his life again. being used to a regular schedule he now finds that things have changed - and especially that people are getting older, be it his mother or the man who used to sell him tobacco.
As he ventures on his rather coincidental journey he breaks into a house, falls asleep in a sauna and meets a diplomat who drives blindly through oslo with him. a few scenes meet horten's first name pretty well - they are quite odd.
Whilst the film has a sad touch to it - growing old and retiring are maybe not the most delightful events - it also has its light moments, some being flat-out funny or quirky. overall it lives by espen skjønberg's eastwoodesque acting, neither using a lot of words nor many facial expressions, but steadily keeping the viewer wondering what may be going on inside his head.
