Review of Oh! What a Lovely War (1969) by Søren J — 26 Sep 2011
This must be one of the most impressive directorial debuts, Richard Attenborough managing to capture humour, pathos, bawdiness and tragedy in one sprawling, epic and entirely original musical. He wasn't easing himself in gently.
The end shot is particularly affecting and the film perfectly summarises the futility of war.
