Review of Oh! Brothers (2003) by Ty E — 20 Feb 2010
As with many (ok almost all) Korean movies there is someone with a debt (many times because of a parental death) and to keep from being beaten or have everything sold off they have to work doing something they dont want to do to pay said debt off. I have watched this same story line in Korean shows many many times. This time though its got just a bit of a new flavor to the soup.
Jung-Jae Lee plays Sang-wu who is a paparazzi photographer dealing with the seedier side. Having incurred a bit of debt he is being threatened and eventually forced to become a debt collector to pay back the funds. Unfortunately debt collecting is a profession he isn't very good at.
On top of his bad luck he learns his estranged father has passed and that he has to pay off his fathers debt as well. There is yet another surprise waiting for him, his half brother Bong-gu. Beom-su Lee plays the half brother who is 12 years old but appears to be in his 30's (at least) due to a rapid aging disorder he has.
I personally found this movie to be a cute comedy that kept me entertained all the way through to the end. It not one I'll be talking about for weeks but I have to say that not once did I want to push the fast forward button.
