Review of Office Space (1992) by Adrian B — 19 Mar 2011
"Office Space" is a very annoying film, and its annoyingness is how it works its magic. The film follows the life and employment of computer programmer (Ron Livingston) who is just sick of his job.
He also meets a waitress (Jennifer Anniston) who faces equal, perhaps more frustration with her job. It also involves a hypnotist that causes Livingston's character to go from constant irritation to relative relaxation and bizarre revenge plotting.
It is a slow-paced, but relatively funny film, with some good lines and good acting. The film is also quite relevant for today because it outlines frustration in the workforce and it deals with a thriving employment industry (information technology).
However, one major reservation that I had with this film was the emphasis of rap music, which sadly is also relevant today. Within the film, the background music would have been just fine without the lyrics, which come over, at least to me, as quite offensive.
Overall though, "Office Space" is definately a better than usual comedy, that does provide good laughs.
