After finding success with animated TV shows like Beavis and Butt-head and King of the Hill, Mike Judge made this satire of anguish in the work place based on Milton a series of short cartoons Judge had done for MTV in 1991.

He didn't want Milton as the central character, Judge wanted to show the wider picture of what it's like in the work place, it's a film with a very sly sense of humour, and it feels so true as we've all had a job like these people.

Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston) works for IT company Intech, where he hates his job so much, he and his co-workers Samir Nagheenanajar (Ajay Naidu), Michael Bolton (David Herman) and Milton Waddams (Stephen Root) are all at the receiving end of vicious vice-president Bill Lumbergh (Gary Cole).

Peter snaps after being pushed around by Lumbergh too much, so he doesn't go into work when required, he parks in Lumbergh's reserved parking space and destroying company property. But this attitude causes Peter to be promoted by company consultants Bob Slydell (John C.

McGinley) and Bob Porter (Paul Willson), as they admire his frank attitude. It's a film that shows everything that's wrong with the work place, and all the things we wish we could do, but would ultimately feel guilty about.

It's got a claustrophobic feel about it, summing up how constraining work can be, but it is very funny.
