Review of Office Space (1992) by Shannon R — 18 Jan 2015
"Yeahhhhhh.....".
Bill Lumbergh never fails to keep being the guy you love to hate, no matter how many times you view this film. And all the other characters are still entertaining and memorable given their respective traits and personalities. The film would fail, I think, were it not for Peter Gibbons, played by the charismatic Ron Livingston, who alienates himself from most of the characters in the film and aspires to be a happy and honest individual of society. He is our key into this world, because off all the shades the character gets to exploit throughout the film. He explores various options as to how he would go about living his new life, after he seemingly quits his job, and its not all fine and dandy for him as he soon realizes.
"Office Space" is a cute, and thoughtful, satire and parable about living in the world, where everyone has their job and place in society, and inner politics and personality are major factors in terms of moving up and down the chain of command and respect. I have a feeling that alot of people who love this film, are hardworking people, who may not be involved in their dream career, but working a secure, but unfulfilling job, where they have to go around taking all sorts of crap from their ignorant or angry or misunderstood or selfish employers and colleagues. This is easily one of my favourite comedies, and I don't expect to ever forget to watch this film at least once a year.
